For our customer a big pharmaceutical company in Basel we are looking for a highly qualified Research Associate in Neurodegeneration (f/m/d).
Background:
We are looking for a highly motivated Research Associate to join our Protein Degradation Laboratory in the Neuroscience and Rare Diseases Research Department in pRED at Roche in Basel. You will be working in a highly cross-functional drug discovery industry environment where you will contribute to the characterization of mouse models related to mouse models of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and execute experiments to test novel compounds or explore biomarker changes in these models.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Plan, execute, and document in vivo experiments in mouse models of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease
* Administer substances mainly i.p.
* Collect brain tissue and body fluids (blood and CFS) and process them for downstream analysis
* Perform immunostainings, microscopy analysis and establish new staining and imaging protocols and workstreams
* Summarize regularly your experiments in written reports and save in an electronic lab notebook
* Present your data and results to the lab, project teams and in department meetings
* Perform duties and take on general lab-related responsibilities within the research lab and department
Must Haves:
- You have a master's degree in Neuroscience, Life Science, Medical Biotechnologies/Biology, or similar or you are a certified Biology Laboratory (EFZ or similar) with relevant hands-on experience to perform the tasks mentioned above and below (please upload no candidates with a PhD)
* You must have the Swiss LTK1 or a similar certificate from another country (i.e. FELASA) for performing animal experiments; you must be proficient in administration of compounds (i.p mainly, i.v.), can collect blood from the tail vein and isolate the intact brain, and master transcardial perfusion
* You are proficient or have advanced training to process independently brain or other tissue for biochemical and immunostaining analyses(i.e., cryostat sectioning)
* You are proficient or have advanced training to employ independently contemporary light microscopy (confocal and slide scanners)
* You are well-trained and routinely employ digital analysis tools for image analysis such as HALO, Visiopharm, Imaris, ImageJ or have experience in similar software applications
* You are experienced in other standard biology lab practices, including biochemistry (Western blot) and molecular biology methods
* You are well self-organized and -driven, have good communication skills in English (speaking and writing) and are proficient at planning, recording, executing experiments and data analysis.
* You are an excellent team player and lab-citizen and consider yourself an independent troubleshooter capable of seeking help from others or relevant literature for implementing the feedback in your work
* Proficient English skills (written and spoken)
Nice to have:
- Understanding of mouse brain anatomy or background in mouse models of Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease
* Hands-on experience in stereotaxic surgery and i.v. or p.o. compound administration
* Knowledge of flow cytometry and immuno-assays (ELISA, or similar assays)
* Understanding about how to write code for analytical and computational processes
* Experience with working in biotech / pharmaceutical industry
* German skills
