PHP / Craft CMS Developer (m/f/d); FREELANCE; AUSTRIA

Good afternoon,

I am looking looking for an experienced PHP / Craft CMS Developer to support the development and maintenance of a large-scale web platform. The ideal candidate combines strong backend expertise with modern frontend technologies, works independently, communicates proactively, and has experience working in complex enterprise environments.

Project:

Start: November

Capacity:Full-time (75-100%)

Initial Duration: Long-term project (initial contract until June 2027)

Remote and on-site Share: Vienna / Hybrid (1 day per week onsite preferred)

Project languages: German (Fluent) English (Fluent)

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain applications based on PHP and Craft CMS.
• Build and enhance custom modules, services, events, and integrations.
• Develop modern frontend solutions using Astro and React.
• Implement and optimize GraphQL APIs and interfaces.
• Work with PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and Redis
• Ensure software quality through clean code, testing, and best practices.
• Optimize performance, accessibility, SEO, and user experience.
• Proactively communicate requirements, risks, and open topics.
• Analyze technical requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
• Collaborate closely with stakeholders and development teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong communication skills with a proactive approach to identifying, tracking, and resolving open points.
• Ability to challenge assumptions, clarify incomplete requirements, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
• High level of self-motivation, ownership, and independent problem-solving.
• Strong experience with PHP 8.2+, including strict types, enums, readonly properties, constructor promotion, and match expressions.
• Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), SOLID principles, composition over inheritance, and dependency injection.
• Experience with Craft CMS 4/5 and Yii2, including modules, services, events, behaviors, queue jobs, and element queries.
• Strong knowledge of TypeScript, SQL, and modern web application development.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and Redis in enterprise-scale environments.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Laravel Framework and exposure to Craft CMS 6.
• Experience with Twig, custom extensions, and frontend templating.
• Knowledge of Craft GraphQL, including schemas, tokens, and mutations.
• Experience with Astro 5 (SSR) and React.
• Understanding of SEO, Core Web Vitals, and Accessibility (WCAG) principles.
• Experience with Lucene and advanced Elasticsearch features such as Query DSL, Index Mapping, and Reindexing.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or OpenCode.
• Familiarity with OpenSpec or other specification-driven development approaches, including reviewing and validating AI-generated code.
