What I do
Backend systems and AI integration for product teams. I take a problem from written scope to production and hand it over documented, so your team can own it.
Backend and APIs
20 years of production Python: FastAPI, Flask, SQLAlchemy, Celery, async services, REST and event-driven APIs. Freelancing for Raisin SE, a Berlin fintech, since 2021.
AI integration
LLM features inside existing products, retrieval-augmented search, agent workflows with human approval, MCP servers. I use coding agents daily and know where their output needs review.
Data and distributed systems
Apache Kafka, Airflow, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch. Full-text search over millions of records with sub-second response.
Cloud and operations
AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, Linux, Cloudflare Workers. Observability with Datadog, Splunk and OpenTelemetry. Reliability through high-traffic peaks.

Production authentication and authorization: 2FA, passkeys, OAuth, RBAC, audit logs, single sign-on and identity provider integration. Encrypted backups and signed update pipelines.

Bayanat: lead engineer since 2014 of the open-source platform used to document human rights violations, deployed at partner organisations including UNDP. US State Department Internet Freedom Award 2019.
Al Arabiya (MBC Group): led web engineering through the Arab Spring traffic peaks and designed the core content API for web, mobile and broadcast.
Enferno: open-source Flask framework with production auth, maintained since 2014, 569 GitHub stars.
