Technologies I know

There aren't that many programming languages that I have not yet tried or used, but there are a few that I know really well and have used for many years: Java, Kotlin, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, Elixir, Dart.

In the case of Java and/or Kotlin I mostly found myself in projects making use of the Spring Framework, but I have also worked on projects making use of other frameworks such as Dropwizard and Micronaut. In my experience these frameworks are not what makes a project succeed or fail. It’s much more important how these tools are being used, how well the team understands them and most importantly how well the team understands that not all features of a framework must be used.

Of course programming languages and frameworks don’t exist in a vacuum. An application needs to be deployed and maintained. Here are some of the tools I regularly use: AWS (ECS/Fargate, Lambda, SNS/SQS, EC2, Batch, and many more), GCP (Cloud Run, App Engine, PubSub, Cloud SQL, and many more), GitHub + Actions, GitLab CI, Vercel. Of course every project comes with its own requirements and technical settings, so I consider it normal to learn and adopt new tooling all the time.

When it comes to web technologies, I have worked on Java based web applications for a long time. However with the rise of JavaScript based frameworks, I quickly found myself using React a lot, which I still consider to be one of the best designed Web/UI libraries to date. I have worked with it in all sorts of projects, from simple Single-Page-Applications to full fledged websites built on NextJS (and nowadays also Remix).

In the space of mobile apps, I have lots of experience with Flutter, as well as some experience with native Android development.
